LARIMAR

     Larimar is an extremely rare gemstone that is found only in a mountainous region of the Dominican Republic. Its discoverer, Miguel Mendez, named it after his daughter LARIssa and MAR, the Spanish word for the sea, due to its extreoridinary blue color, similar to the tropical ocean.

     This Caribbean gem Larimar is commonly identified as Blue Pectolite even though some mineralogists argue this determination because the stone's volcanic origin presents a great variability in its chemical composition. Its beautiful and unusual shades of blue and green are due to traces of copper and thus it is sometines mistaken for Turquoise.
